Control of locomotion in articulated robots: taking inspiration from vertebrates' spinal cord circuits
Prof. Dr Auke Ijspeert
Wednesday, July 1st
- 9:00 am - 6:00 pm - preliminaries
- 9:30 am Autonomous Car Demonstration
The car is already known to many as the German Team-LUX car (IBEO Hamburg) from the Darpa Urban Challenge 2007 - by then the world's most important car rally for autonomous vehicles. LUX drives using two eyelike laser sensors in the front and one in the back that scan road conditions, buildings, other vehicles and pedestrians over a range of up to 200m.What makes the LUX so special compared to its competitors is that it does not look like a robot: 3 ibeo LUX sensors as well as the entire processing are integrated invisibly into the vehicle. Like this, the LUX keeps its original appearance despite the robot expansion of its abilities.
During an exclusive demonstration, the car will show its capabilities to drive autonomously (no driver on the steering wheel) through a public street.

Johannes Pellenz (in English) - 2:00 pm Demonstration Rescue Robots with First-Responders, in front of the main entrance
This demonstration highlights the potential benefits of human-robot cooperation. Two scenarios will be shown: the situation after a truck accident involving hazardous substances, and a fire breakout in a multi-storey building. In these two scenarios, first responders will teleoperate ground and aerial rescue robots for reconnaissance and disaster mitigation. - 3:00 pm League Talk, Lecture Hall 1
