About 3D-Printing Stainless steel SS316L Powder 316 stainless has more carbon than 316L. It is simple to remember that the "L" stands for low. 316L has less carbon but is still very similar to 316. The cost is similar and both materials are durable and corrosion-resistant. They're also good choices for high-stress environments.
Molybdenum is also added to these alloys, making them even more corrosion-resistant. Molybdenum is added to 317L to increase corrosion resistance. This alloy contains 3 to 4% molybdenum, compared to 2 to 3% in 316 and316L.

How are 3D printing Stainless steel SS316L powder manufactured?
Type 316 is a chromium nickel austenitic stainless steel that contains between 2% and 3% molybdenum. The molybdenum content increases corrosion resistance, resistance against pitting in chloride-ion solutions and high temperature strength.
The 3D printing of stainless steel is done by laser sintering or melting. Two technologies are available for this material, DMLS and SLM. Sculpteo uses DMLS (Direct Metal Laser Sintering), a laser sintering process, on EOS M280 machines to print stainless steel.
