Heating element
MoSi2 (MoSi2 for short) is a conductive silicon dioxide that exhibits an oxidation reaction due to the presence of a stable layer of silica on its surface.
While the MoSi2 top element can operate up to temperatures of 1800 deg C (or a maximum of 2200 deg C), the material is extremely brittle. It may experience serious creep during usage. They are still useful for process, as they can work with high electrical load without aging and will not increase resistance during use. They are antioxidants in oxygen, air and oxygen-rich environment.
The operating temperature can also be reduced due to a failure of the protective layer.
MoSi2 components are available in a wide range of sizes, and they can be bent or made straight. These elements are mostly used in production and laboratory furnaces of the ceramics industry, glass, steel and electronics industries.
High-temperature structure
MoSi2's amazing properties and high temperature elasticity make it a promising material for high temperature applications, like gas turbine engines.
