What’s 316? Stainless Steel?

There are numerous types made of stainless steel. There are several common types, including L F, N and H variants. Each variant is slightly different as well as each is employed for distinct purposes. L indicates that 316L steel has an amount of carbon that is lower than 316.

However, 316L can be annealed in order to prevent welding attenuation. The 316L is an extremely suitable stainless for high temperature, high corrosion applications and that is the reason it is so sought-after for marine and construction.

There is no 316 or 316L is the least expensive option. The 304 is similar to the 304L but the price is lower. Neither is as durable as the 317 and 317L which have a higher molybdenum levels and superior quality corrosion resistant overall.
